If you are young and live inner city, getting into off road motorcycling isn’t easy. Chances are you’ll end up riding stolen pizza bikes around an estate or mini motors in a car park. The Young Lewisham Project has been taking kids out riding in the mud for 40 years now. They use bikes usually donated by the police to teach mechanics and maintenance.
I wanted the series to focus on the young boys involved in the project and youth workers who guide them. To show how the continuation of the project helps to provide opportunities for young people and enhance their development. Shot over one day at their workshop space in Lewisham and at the Docklands Riders off road motorcycle training centre in Newham.
