Since graduating in 2001, Israeli photographer, Michal Chelbin has completed 3 large-scale photographic series; Sailboats and Swans - shot in seven prisons throughout Ukraine and Russia, Strangely Familiar - small town performers, such as ballet dancers and contortionists photographed away from their working environments and The Black Eye - juvenile wrestlers and athletes captured in the midst of their grueling training. Each series highlights the conflicting characteristics of Chelbin's subjects, such as the struggle between youth and adulthood, strength and weakness and innocence and what is morally right and wrong.

Here, TRIP have selected their favourite photographs from the award winning photographer's works.
