46.5°N is the latitude of two cities I love; Odessa, where I am from and Lausanne, Switzerland where my boyfriend, David comes from.
After deciding to photograph both cities I noticed how, taking apart obvious differences, surprisingly similar they are.
Odessa is a Ukrainian town, though due to numerous cultural and military Russian invasions, the city speaks Russian language and we have a giant neighbour – the Russian Federation itself.
Lausanne is situated in the French-speaking part of 70% German-speaking Switzerland, and is right next to a bigger, yet much more peaceful neighbour, France.
Odessa is situated on the Black sea and Lausanne on the Lac Léman, which sometimes looks like sea, so both my boyfriend and me miss the sea painfully.
Both cities are quiet, peaceful and perfect for family life.
